I graduated in 1988 from Norwalk High School in Warren county IA. I tried several different things before finding the Boilermakers Local 83 out of Kansas City. I started the trade November 1993 it was the only career I’ve had where everyday is an adventure, rarely worked with the same people or doing the same thing more than a couple of days. The travel is fun as well, we work border to border and coast to coast. Working in several locals Ive got to meet and have friends in about every state in the country. I worked in the field as a rigger, mechanic and high press tube welder for 14 years. Once I graduated the apprenticeship I climbed the ladder from steward, foreman, general foreman to superintendent. 2007 I was offered a job with the local as an Agent and I took it. This year I had my 30 year anniversary and it’s been a great way to provide for my family and myself. I currently am the President of the Local and looking at retirement in the next 4-5 years.
